Trophoblast cells perform various functions such as provide protection, nutrition to inner mass cells, helps in implantation, forms chorionic villi that are fetal part of the placenta. The layer of trophoblasts after gastrulation, get formed into the trophectoderm, which in future forms the ectoderm of the embryo and gives rise to the organs that are derived from ectodermal layer.
