The Triticale is the first man made cereal. It is formed by a intergenic cross (i.e., cross between two members of different genus) between wheat (Triticum) and rye (Secale cereale).
Triticale is of two types:
(a) Hexaploid Triticale is obtained by crossing between tetraploid Durum wheat and diploid rye followed by chromosomes doubling.
(b) Octoploid Triticale obtained by crossing between hexaploid bread wheat and diploid rye followed by chromosomes doubling,
