Q. The total number of electrophiles present in the following set is/are____
$SnCl _{4}, ZnCl _{2}, NO _{2}^{+}, H _{3} O ^{+}, NH _{4}^{+}, NF _{3}, H _{2} S, CH _{2}= CH - C \equiv CH$

Organic Chemistry – Some Basic Principles and Techniques

Solution:

Charged electrophile: $NO _{2}^{+}$
Neutral electrophiles: $SnCl _{4}, ZnCl _{2}, NF _{3}$.
$H _{3} O ^{+}, NH _{4}^{+}$cannot act as electrophiles since they already have an octet of electrons in their respective valence shells.
Hence, they cannot accept a pair of electrons.
Nucleophiles: $H _{2} S , CH _{2}= CH - C \equiv CH$.
