The term neo-systematics was given by Julian Huxley in 1940. Neosystematics or biosystematics is concept of systematics which brings about taxonomic affinity on the basis of evolutionary genetic and morphologically traits. Linnaeus coined the term systematics. Theophrastus, referred to as father of botany, classified plants on the basis of form and texture and described 480 plants in his book Historia Plantarum. John Ray coined the term species (basic unit of taxonomy).
