Q. The temperature at which speed of sound in air becomes double of its value at $ 0{}^\circ C $ is:

JIPMERJIPMER 1997

Solution:

Using the relation $ \frac{{{\upsilon }_{1}}}{{{\upsilon }_{0}}}\,=\sqrt{\frac{T}{{{T}_{0}}}} $ [Here: $ {{\upsilon }_{t}}=2\upsilon ,\,\,{{\upsilon }_{0}}=\upsilon ,\,{{T}_{0}}\,=273\,K $ ] $ \therefore $ $ \left( \frac{\upsilon }{2\upsilon } \right)\,=\frac{\sqrt{T}}{273} $ or $ T=273\times 4=1092\,K $
