Q. The surface tension of which of the following liquids is maximum?

AIPMTAIPMT 2005States of Matter

Solution:

Surface tension of $H_2O$ is maximum due to maximum hydrogen bonding in comparison to $C_6H_6, CH_3OH, C_2H_5OH $.
The order of H-bonding is $H_2O > CH_3OH > C_2H_5OH$ (Benzene does not form H-bond).
