Q. The surface tension of which of the following liquid is maximum?

CMC MedicalCMC Medical 2012

Solution:

Surface tension of $ {{H}_{2}}O $ is maximum due to maximum hydrogen bonding in comparison to $ {{C}_{6}}{{H}_{6}}, $ $ C{{H}_{3}}OH,\,\,{{C}_{2}}{{H}_{5}}OH $ . The order of H-bonding is $ {{H}_{2}}O>C{{H}_{3}}OH>{{C}_{2}}{{H}_{2}}OH $ (Benzene does not form H-Bond.)
