: In anaphase $ I $ of meiosis $ I $ there is separation of each chromosome of a homologous chromosome pair and during anaphase $ II $ of meiosis $ II $ there is separation of the sister chromatids of a chromosome which are bound together by the centromere. The spindle fibres pull the two sister chromatids at the centromere point towards the opposite poles.
