Solution:

Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt for short) is a soil bacterium which produces proteins that kill certain insects such as lepidopterans, coleopterans and dipterans. $B$. thuringiensis, forms some protein crystals, which contain a toxic insecticidal protein. Bt toxin genes are isolated from $B$. thuringiensis bacterium and are incorporated into several crop plants such as cotton through genetic engineering.
