Q. The solubility of $AgCl (s)$ with solubility product $1.6 \times 10^{-10}$ in $0.1\, M\, NaCl$ solution would be :

NEETNEET 2016Equilibrium

Solution:

$AgCl \rightleftharpoons Ag ^{+}+ Cl ^{-}$
$\begin{array}{lll}\text { a } & 0 & 0\end{array}$
a-S $ S S +0.1$
$k _{\text {sp }}=1.6 \times 10^{-10}=\left[ Ag ^{+}\right]\left[ Cl ^{-}\right]$
$= S (0.1+ S )$
$k _{ sp }$ is value seems to be very small
$S$ value can be ignored, with respect to $0.1 M$
$ 1.6 \times 10^{-10}= S \times 0.1 $
$ S =1.6 \times 10^{-9} M $
