Q. The significance of sequence polymorphisms in satellite DNA is

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2020

Solution:

DNA fingerprinting involves identifying differences in some specific regions in the DNA sequence called repetitive DNA. These repetitive DNA are separated from bulk genomic DNA as different peaks during density gradient centrifugation. The bulk DNA forms a major peak and the other small peaks are referred to as satellite DNA. Polymorphism (variation at genetic level) arises due to mutations.
