Q. The shape of $[Cu(NH_{3})_{4}]Cl_{2}$ is:

Coordination Compounds

Solution:

$NH _{3}$ has more field strength. So it forms low spin complexes. Due to presence of one unpaired electron it is paramagnetic.
$4\left( NH _{3}\right)$ molecules has 8 electrons. So, they require 4 sub orbitals - 1d, $1 s , 2 p$. So, its hybridization becomes $dsp ^{2}$. Its co-ordination number $=4$
Co-ordination number and hybridization decides the shape with 4 coordination number and dsp hybridization, it has a square planar structure.
