NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2020Reproduction in Organisms
Solution:
Reproduction is the process of producing fertile offspring which look similar to parents. Sexual mode of reproduction is the reproductive process where two gametic cells fertilize or fuse to produce zygote. Protozoa are group of unicellular organisms coming under the kingdom Protista. These are either free-living or parasitic in nature. Protozoans like Plasmodium, show sexual reproduction via anisogamy where gametes participating are not similar in shape and size. Schizogamy is a type of asexual phase of reproduction.
Protoplasts of two cells fusing to form a new cell is called plasmogamy. A special type of binary fission is called plasmotomy where the multinucleate protozoan cell divides into two or more multinucleate cells.
