Q. The relationship between acetylene and benzene can be compared with the relationship of propyne with:

JIPMERJIPMER 1998

Solution:

Benzene is obtained by polymerisation of acetylene. $ 3CH\equiv \equiv CH\xrightarrow{Fe,\,\Delta }\underset{\text{Benzene}}{\mathop{{{C}_{6}}{{H}_{6}}}}\, $ Similarly, propyne on polymerisation, yields mesitylene (trimethyl benzene).
