Q. The reduction potential of an electrode can be increased by

COMEDKCOMEDK 2012Electrochemistry

Solution:

For the reduction reaction,
$M^{n+} + ne^{-} \rightarrow M$
$ E = E^{^\circ} - \frac{RT}{nF} In \frac{\left[M\right]}{\left[M^{n+}\right]} $
The value of E will increase if $[M^{n+}]$ is increased or T is decreased
