(i) Dry ether is used in Wurtz reaction. (ii) $ {{\text{P}}_{\text{2}}}{{\text{O}}_{\text{5}}} $ is used in dehydration reactions. (iii) Anhydrous $ \text{AlC}{{\text{l}}_{\text{3}}} $ or anhydrous $ \text{FeC}{{\text{l}}_{\text{3}}} $ are used in Friedel-Craft reaction. These are Lewis acids which help in formation of electrophile. Friedel-Craft reaction is used for alkylation of aromatic compounds.
