Q.
The reaction of aqueous $KMnO_4$ with $ H_2O_2 $ in acidic conditions gives
AIPMTAIPMT 2014The d-and f-Block Elements
Solution:
The reaction of aqueous $KMnO O _{4}$ with $H _{2} O _{2}$ in acidic medium is $3 H _{2} SO _{4}+2 KMnO _{4}+5 H _{2} O _{2} \rightarrow 5 O _{2}+2 MnSO _{4}+8 H _{2} O + K _{2} SO _{4}$
In the above reaction, $KMnO O _{4}$ oxidises $H _{2} O _{2}$ to $O _{2}$ and itself $\left[ MnO _{4}^{-}\right]$gets reduced to $M n^{2+}$ ion as $MnSO _{4}$.
Hence, aqueous solution of $KMnO _{4}$. with $H _{2} O _{2}$ yields $Mn ^{2+}$ and $O _{2}$ in acidic conditions.
