Q. The reaction involved in the oil of winter green test is salicylic acid
$\xrightarrow[\text{conc}.H_2SO_4]{\Delta}$ product.
The product is treated with $Na _{2} CO _{3}$ solution. The missing reagent in the above reaction is

Solution:

Methanol reacts with salicylic acid in the presence of a few drops of conc $H _{2} SO _{4}$ to give methyl salicylate having the smell of oil of winter green.
