Q. The ratio of two specific heats of gas $C_{p} / C_{V}$ for argon s $1.6$ and for hydrogen is 1.4. Adiabatic elasticity of argon at pressure $p$ is $E .$ Adiabatic elasticity of hydrogen will also be equal to $E$ at the pressure

Mechanical Properties of Solids

Solution:

Adiabatic elasticity $E=\gamma p$
For argon $E_{ Ar }=1.6 p$
For hydrogen $E_{ H _{2}}=1.4 p^{\prime}$
As elasticity of hydrogen and argon are equal
$\therefore 1.6 p=1.4 p^{\prime}$
$\Rightarrow p'=\frac{8}{7} p$
