Q. The rate of formation of $SO_3$ in the following reaction: $2SO_2 + O_2 \to 2SO_3$ is $10\, g\, sec^{-1}$. The rate of disappearance of $O_2$ will be
Chemical Kinetics
A
$5\, g\, sec^{-1}$
76%
B
$100\, g\, sec^{-1}$
1%
C
$20\, g\, sec^{-1}$
11%
D
$2\, g\, sec^{-1}$
13%
Solution:
$2SO_2 + O_2 \to 2SO_3$
$r_{SO_3}=10 g/sec=\frac{10}{80} mol/sec$
Also, $\frac{r_{O_2}}{1}=\frac{r_{SO_3}}{2}\Rightarrow r_{O_2}=\frac{10}{80}\times\frac{1}{2} mol/ sec$
$=\left(\frac{10}{160}\right)\times32g/sec =2 g/sec$
