Q. The pyruvic acid formed in glycolysis is oxidized to $ CO_{2} $ and $ H_{2}O $ in a cycle called

Chhattisgarh PMTChhattisgarh PMT 2004

Solution:

Krebs cycle has been named after the Energy scientist Hans Krebs discovered it in $1948-1949$ and won Nobel Prize for his work in $1953$. The respiration starts with glucose. In aerobic and anaerobic respiration initial reactions are common as a result of which pyruvic acid is formed by breakdown of glucose. This process is called glycolysis. If $ O_{2} $ is present there, a complete oxidation of pyruvic acid into $ H_{2}O $ and $ CO_{2} $ and a chemical reaction occurs called Tri-carboxylic Acid (TCA) cycle.
