Q.
The protein digesting enzymes of pancreatic juice are?
NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2020
Solution:
The leaf like organ that participates in the food digestion is the "Pancreas". The pancreas which is both exocrine and endocrine secretes enzyme mixed digestive juices called as "Pancreatic juice". This juice has inactivated enzymes: Trypsinogen, chymotrypsinogen, procarboxypeptidases along with pancreatic amylase, lipases and nucleases as well. The inactivated enzymes are activated to trypsin, chymotrypsin and carboxypeptidase that help in breaking down the proteins in the food to dipeptides which are later broken down by dipeptidases to amino acids. These dipeptidases are secreted by the small intestine.
Pepsin is the activated version of pepsinogen. Pepsinogen is part of the gastric juice which is secreted by the acid producing organ in abdomen- stomach. Pepsin is a proteolytic enzyme whose catalytic activity products are proteoses and peptones.
Ptyalin is the alternate name for salivary amylase. Saliva is secreted by the salivary glands found in the mouth. Ptyalin helps in breaking down starch to maltose, isomaltose and 'limit dextrin'.
Erepsin is a mixture of exopeptidases found as part of the intestinal juice secreted by the small intestine. These exopeptidases break the protein at its terminal amino acid ends.
