Q. The primary winding of a transformer has 500 turns whereas its secondary has 5000 turns. The primary is connected to an A.C. supply 20 V, 50 Hz. The secondary will have an output of

AIPMTAIPMT 1997

Solution:

Turns on primary winding = 500; Turns on
secondary winding = 5000; Primary winding
voltage $(E_p)$ = 20 V and frequency = 50 Hz.
$\frac{N_s}{N_p}=\frac{E_s}{E_p} \, or \, \frac{5000}{500}=\frac{E_s}{20}$
or $E_s=\frac{5000\times20}{500}=200 \, V$ and frequency remains
the same. Therefore secondary winding will have
an output of 200 V, 50 Hz.
