Solution:

Benedict's test is used to detect reducing sugars such as glucose. Sucrose is a non-reducing sugar, it gives negative result for Benedict's test. Benedict's reagent is a complex mixture of sodium carbonate, sodium citrate and copper (II) sulphate petahydrate.
