Q. The plot of $\frac{\text{1}}{\text{Y}_{\text{A}}} \text{Vs} \frac{\text{1}}{\text{X}_{\text{A}}}$ ( $\frac{\text{1}}{\text{Y}_{\text{A}}}$ on y-axis) where $\text{A}$ and $\text{B}$ form a ideal solution. $\text{Y}$ is mole fraction in vapour phase and $\text{X}$ is mole fraction in liquid phase, is linear with slope and intercept respectively

Solution:

$\frac{1}{y_{A}}=\frac{p_{B}^{0} + \left(\right. p_{A}^{0} - p_{B}^{0} \left.\right) X_{A}}{p_{A}^{0} X_{A}}$

$\frac{1}{y_{A}}=\left(\frac{p_{B}^{0}}{p_{A}^{0}}\right)\frac{1}{X_{A}}+\frac{p_{A}^{0} - p_{B}^{0}}{p_{A}^{0}}$

$y=mx+c$

Slope $=\frac{p_{B}^{0}}{p_{A}^{0}}$

Intercept $=\frac{p_{A}^{0} - p_{B}^{0}}{p_{A}^{0}}$
