Q. The plates of a parallel plate capacitor are not. exactly parallel. The surface charge density

ManipalManipal 2008Electrostatic Potential and Capacitance

Solution:

Being a conductor, each plate has the same potential at each point. As $ E\propto \sigma , $ so surface charge density $\sigma$ is higher at the closer end because electric field being the conductor gradient of potential is highest where the plates are closest to each other.
