Soyabean (Glycine max) belongs to the family- Fabaceae. Soyabean is an erect, much branched, pubescent, annual 0.6-1.8 m in height. The crop is raised from seeds. The seeds are richest in protein and have low percentage of oil. Family-Liliaceae includes about 240 genera and 4,000 species. The plants are cosmopolitan in distribution. Common Indian genera are Lilium, Aloe, Asparagus, Asphodelus, Gloriosa, etc. There are about 283 genera and 7,300 species in family-Euphorbiaceae. The plants are not found in arctic regions. The common Indian genera are Euphorbia, Ricinus, Croton, Phyllanthus, etc. Family-Gramineae (Poaceae) contains about 650 genera and 10,000 species. This is a fourth largest family and worldwide in distribution.
