In green manure quickly growing crops are cultivated and ploughed into the soil which can increase crop yield by $30-50$ percent. Some common green manuring crops are Sesbania, Aculeata, Cyamopsis, Tetragonoloba, Crotolaria juncea, Vigna sinensis, Lens esculenta, Macrotyloma uniflorum etc.
Green manuring has following advantages
(a) It adds organic matter and nitrogen to the soil.
(b) It increases the availability of plant nutrients.
