I. Adenohypophysis - It is divisible into
A. Pars distalis (anterior pituitary) - Growth hormone (GH), Prolactin (PRL), Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), Adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH), Luteinizing hormone (LH) and Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH).
B. Pars intermedia - Melanocyte stimulating hormone (MSH).
II. Neurohypophysis (Pars nervosa or Posterior pituitary) - Oxytocin and Vasopressin (or ADH).
- These hormones are actually synthesized by the hypothalamus and are transported to neurohypophysis via hypothalamic neurons.
