Q. The pH of an aqueous solution of $ {{H}_{2}}{{O}_{2}} $ is $ 6.0\text{ }. $ Some chlorine is bubbled through this solution. The pH of the resultant solution will be:

EAMCETEAMCET 1999

Solution:

When chlorine is passed through the solution of $ {{\text{H}}_{\text{2}}}{{\text{O}}_{\text{2}}}\text{,} $ hydrochloric acid is produced. Due to this HCl acidity of solution increases. Hence, pH will decreased. $ {{\text{H}}_{2}}{{O}_{2}}+C{{l}_{2}}\xrightarrow{{}}2HCl+{{O}_{2}} $ So, pH will be less than 6.
