Q. The permittivity of diamond is $ 1.46\times {{10}^{-10}}{{C}^{2}}/N{{m}^{2}} $ The electric susceptibility of diamond will be $ ({{\varepsilon }_{0}}=8.85\times {{10}^{-12}}{{C}^{2}}/N{{m}^{2}}) $ :

Solution:

Dielectric constant is given by as
$ K=\frac{\varepsilon }{{{\varepsilon }_{0}}}=\frac{1.46\times {{10}^{-10}}}{8.85\times {{10}^{-12}}}=16.5 $
Now, by the relation for susceptibility $ K=1+{{X}_{e}} $ or
$ {{X}_{e}}=K-1 $ $ =16.5-1=15.5 $
