Q. The partial pressure of ethane over a saturated solution containing $6.56 \times 10^{-3}\, g$ of ethane is 1 bar. If the solution contains $5.00 \times 10^{-2}\, g$ of ethane, then what shall be the partial pressure of the gas?

Solutions

Solution:

Applying the relationship ,$m = K_{H} \times p$
In the first case, $6.56 \times 10^{-3}\, g = K_{H} \times 1\,$ bar
or, $K_{H} = 6.56 \times 10^{-3}\, g\,$ bar $^{-1}$
In the second case,
$5.00 \times 10^{-2}\, g = (6.56 \times 10^{-3}\, g\,$ bar $^{-1}) \times p$
or $p = \frac{5.00 \times 10^{-2}\,g}{6.56 \times 10^{-3}\, g\, bar ^{-1}}$
$ = 7.62\,bar$
