Classical Taxonomy is based on observable morphological characteristics with normal individuals considered to be expression of the ideal while their variations are believed to be imperfect versions. Classical taxonomy started with Plato followed by Aristotle, Theophrastus and up to Linnaeus. A few individuals or their preserved specimens are used for studying any species. It is called as a typological concept.
