Solution:

The lungs are called pleura and the membrane enclosing them is called plural membrane. This is two layered and in between the two membranes air filled space is found. This air provides protection to the lungs against any shocks and acts as cushion. The outer membrane is parietal pleura and the inner is called visceral pleura.
