Q. The observations $29,32,48,50, x , x +2,72,78,84,95$ are arranged in ascending order. What is the value of $x$ if the median of the data is $63$ ?

Statistics

Solution:

Given observations are $29,32,48,50, x , x +2,72,78$, $84,95 .$
Number of observations $=10$
As per definition
$=\frac{\text { value of } 5 \text { th term }+\text { value of } 6 \text { th term }}{2}$
$=\frac{x+x+2}{2}=\frac{2(x+1)}{2}=x+1$
But Median $=63$, is given.
So, $63=x+1 \Rightarrow x=62$
