Q. The number of NADPH molecules that are used during the conversion of carbon dioxide info one molecule of glucose

CMC MedicalCMC Medical 2008

Solution:

NADPH is a strong reducing agent. It constitutes the reducing power and also contains a large amount of chemical energy. It is produced through non-cyclic photophosphorylation along with ATP. Since, fixation of one molecule of CO2 uses 2NADPH in both C3 and C4 -plants. So, In conversion of carbon dioxide into one molecule of glucose (6C compound), a total of (2×6), 12 NADPH will be required.
