Q. The number of moles of oxygen obtained by the electrolytic decomposition of 108 g water is

Jharkhand CECEJharkhand CECE 2007

Solution:

$ \underset{=\,36\,g}{\mathop{\underset{2\,\,\times \,18\,}{\mathop{\underset{2\,\text{mole}}{\mathop{2{{H}_{2}}O}}\,}}\,}}\,\xrightarrow{\text{Electrolysis}}2{{H}_{2}}+\underset{1\,\text{mole}}{\mathop{{{O}_{2}}}}\, $
$ \because $ $ 36\,g $ of $ {{\text{H}}_{\text{2}}}\text{O} $ produce 1 mole of oxygen.
$ \therefore $ 108 g of water will produce oxygen.
$ =\frac{108}{36}=3\,mol $
