Q. The number of mole of nitrogen in one litre of air containing $10 \%$ nitrogen by volume, under standard conditions, is

Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry

Solution:

Volume of $N _{2}$ in $1\, L$ i.e., $1000\, ml$ of
$N _{2}=\frac{10}{1000} \times 1000=100\, ml$
$22400\, ml$ at $STP =1 \,mol$.
$\therefore 100\, ml$ at $STP =\frac{1}{22400} \times 100$
$=\frac{1}{224}=4.46 \times 10^{-3} mol$
