Q. The net pressure gradient that causes the fluid to filter out of the glomeruli into the capsule is

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2022

Solution:

(i) Glomerular capillary pressure (60 mm Hg) favours filteration.
(ii) The colloidal osmotic pressure (due to plasma proteins, particularly albumin) acts against filtration. Its value is $sim 32 \, \, m m \, \, H g .$
(iii) The filtrate pressure due to the glomerular filtrate filled in the Bowman’s capsule also acts against filtration. Its value is $sim 18 \, \, m m \, \, H g .$ Net filtration pressure
$= 60 - (32+18 \left.\right) m m \, \, H g$
$= 10 \, m m \, \, o f \, \, H g$
