Q. The molecule with highest percentage of ionic character is:

Delhi UMET/DPMTDelhi UMET/DPMT 2002

Solution:

The compounds in which the difference in electronegativities of constituting elements is more than $1.7$, form ionic bonds. Greater the difference in electronegativities, higher will be the ionic character in compound. The electronegativity difference in hydrogen and fluorine is maximum among given choices (due to highest electronegativity of fluorine). So, the HF bond has highest ionic character.
