Q. The molarity of a solution in which $5.3\, g\, Na_2CO_3$ is dissolved in $500 \,mL$ will be

UPSEEUPSEE 2013Solutions

Solution:

Molecular mass of $Na _{2} CO _{3}=106 \,g \,mol ^{-1}$

$\therefore $ Number of moles $=\frac{5.3}{106}=0.05\, mol$

As $0.05\, mol $ are dissolved in $500 \,mL$;

Number of moles dissolved in $1000\, mL (1 \,L )$ or molarity of the solution

$=\frac{0.05}{500} \times 1000=0.1 \,M$
