Q. The minimum number of moles of $O _{2}$ required for complete combustion of 1 mole of propane and 2 moles of butane is _____.

JEE MainJEE Main 2020Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry

Solution:

$\underset{\text{1 mole}}{{C_{3}H_{8}}}+\underset{\text{5 mole}}{{5O_{2}}} \to 3CO_{2}+4H_{2}O$

For 1 mole propane combustion 5 mole $O _{2}$ required

$C _{4} H _{10}+\frac{13}{2} O _{2}n \to 4 CO _{2}+5 H _{2} O$

1 mole $\quad$ 6.5 mole

2 mole $\quad$ 13 mole

For 2 moles of butane 13 mole of $O _{2}$ is required

total moles $=13+5=18$
