Q. The minimum force required to move a body of mass $m$ vertically upward is

AMUAMU 2003

Solution:

Weight of a body is $mg$, where $m$ is mass, $g$ the acceleration due to gravity. A body is balanced when a force applied is equal to its weight.
Therefore, to lift it up, an additional force is required.
Hence, the minimum force required is
$ (mg+ma) > mg $
which is greater than $mg$.
