Q. The method of classification, called cladistics, is based on

AMUAMU 2005

Solution:

Cladistic or phylogenetic system of classification is based on the evolutionary history of a group of organisms. This type of classification comprises a branching diagram that shows the relationships among species with regard to their shared derived character, called a cladogram.
Natural system of classification takes into account many comparable characters at a time, eg, presence or absence of petals. It was used for the first time by de Jussieu. It is based on idea of ''fixity of species'' and about $202$ families were recognised.
Mutation theory was given by Hugo de Vries. It is a theory of evolution according to which, evolution is a jerky process where new varieties and species are formed by mutation that functions as raw material of environment. In artificial system, organisms are categorized on the basis of one or few superficial characters. Proposed by Theophrastus in his book ''Historia Plantarum''. This classification was based on Bauhin and Linnaeus work.
