Q. The melting point of $ NaCl $ is high because

Solution:

As the lattice energy is the energy released when a number of gaseous positive and negative ions combine to form one mole of ionic compound. Thus, lattice energy depends upon the force of attraction between oppositely charged ions. In $ NaCl $ , the Na4 and $ C{{l}^{-}} $ ions are tightly held together by strong electrostatic forces of attraction. Thus, its lattice energy is very high and it also has a high melting and boiling point.
