Q. The mean time between successive collision between the molecules of an ideal gas is $\tau$ .If the gas is isobarically heated to twice its initial volume. As a result the mean time between successive collision between the molecule becomes.

Solution:

The mean time between successive collision of an ideal gas $\tau=\frac{1}{\left(\sqrt{2} n \pi d^{2}\right) v_{rms}} \propto \frac{V}{\sqrt{T}}$
In isobaric process $\frac{V}{T}=$ constant $\Rightarrow \tau'=\sqrt{2}\tau$
