Q. The maximum refractive index of a prism which permits the passage of light through it is $\sqrt{n}$ . If the refracting angle of the prism is $90^\circ ,$ then what is the value of $n$ ?

Solution:

For passing the ray from the prism,
$\mu < cosec\frac{A}{2}$
$\mu < cosec\left(\frac{90 ^\circ }{2}\right)$
$\mu < \sqrt{2}$
$\mu _{max} = \sqrt{2}$
