Q. The maximum number of oxygen molecules that can bind to one molecule of haemoglobin is

KVPYKVPY 2017

Solution:

The haemoglobin molecule has four binding sites for oxygen molecules. Thus, each Hb tetramer can bind four oxygen molecules. Haemoglobin is the oxygen transporting protein of red blood cells and is a globular protein with quaternary structure. Haemoglobin consists of four polypeptide subunits, $2\alpha$ chains and $2\beta$ chains.
