Q. The maximum number of electrons that can exist in the orbital for which $n=3$ , $l=1$ and $m=-1$ is:

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2022

Solution:

$\text{n} = 3 , 1 = 1 \Rightarrow 3 \text{p}$
As the value of m is also fixed, it means we are dealing with one particular orbital of $\text{p}$ i.e. $\text{p}_{\text{x}} , \text{p}_{\text{y}}$ or $\text{p}_{\text{z}}$ . Total $2$ electrons can fit in any orbital.
