Q. The maximum in the energy distribution spectrum of the sun is at wavelength $4753 \AA$ and its temperature is $6050\, K$. What will be the temperature of the star (in $K$) whose energy distribution shows a maximum at wavelength $9506 \AA$ ?

Thermal Properties of Matter

Solution:

By Wein's displacement law, we use $\lambda_{m} T=$ constant
$\Rightarrow \lambda_{m_{1}} T_{1}=\lambda_{m_{2}} T_{2} $
$\Rightarrow 4753 \times 6050=9506 \times T_{2} $
$\Rightarrow T_{2}=3025\, K$
